As this plateau continues, the competition for a share of voice with these influencers will become more and more fierce. Better spend some time on creative social presence, and stop just pushing out coupons.
• BP buys oil spill PPC ads: Nice idea, poor execution | Econsultancy – Interesting use of PPC display ads as PR damage control. We’ve seen this done with AdWords, but display ads area an even louder (faster?) way to respond to negative press.
• Candid answers from AT&T on the new iPhone data plans – The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) – Everything you really need to know about the AT&T plans.
• An Author’s Plan for Social Media Efforts « [chrisbrogan.com] – Just change the word “book” to product or brand, and this post is a great how to guide for social influence marketing.

• 25 ways of encouraging and rewarding customer engagement | Econsultancy – Building a community or social app? If you build it, they will come, but might come back. This article offers some functionality that can help to make your community or app stickier. Participation is essential to the health of any community. It’s really the currency of social wealth.

• eMarketer – Is the click still king? Despite the recogition of the need to measure hard ROI, moat of us are still counting click throughs.
• eMarketer – Consumers still prefer ads that offer discounts or deals.
• @twitterapi’s countdown to Basic Auth removal – Countdown to mandatory oAuth integration for Twitter apps.

• Facebook’s New Solution For Unofficial Pages: Community Pages – Facebook makes a distinction between brand pages and pages meant to build community around a topic. Think it will take off?
• BRITE: Influence on Twitter can’t be purchased with Kim Kardashian | Econsultancy – Can you buy influence on Twitter? Maybe this should say “meaningful influence”?
• iPhone and iPad Stock Files – collis – GraphicRiver – iPad UI graphic elements kits from Envato for your application design and wireframing needs.
• Custom Post Types in WordPress 3.0 – Custom post types is going to be a game changer for my dev team. We currently use a few plugins to massage WordPress into a CMS, namely Flutter and Secondary HTML Content. Custom post types might eliminate the need for those plugins. RT @danielbachhuber.
• Mirror files across systems with rsync – Backup utilities – Lifehacker – I know this is the right way to backup. Real geeks use rsync. I haven’t had the chance to poke this bear yet, but Gina’s article is where I’ll start.

• Advertising on Facebook Strikes Some as Off-Key – NYTimes.com – Ad quality on Facebook is getting noticably spammy. I often “delete” ads for “irrelevance” so that Facebook will take the hint, but I’m realizing that what I really want is a way to mark an ad as “low quality” or “spam”. Facebook might investigate these ads differently than the ones I mark irrelevant. I’d be flagging them as detrimental to the whole FB ad platform, not just irrelevant to my interests.
• How to Add / Embed YouTube Videos & Flash in Facebook Static FBML pages – A very clear tutorial on how to show a YouTube video on a Facebook Fan Page. Make sure you install the Static FBML app, then use the FBML markup here.
• 8 Essential Apps for Your Brand’s Facebook Page – Thanks to Allison Driscoll’s for this Mashable article recommending possibly the 8 best apps for Facebook Fan Pages. The second half of this article goes into Facebook Fan pages that are utilizing these Facebook Apps well. • Why Do People Always Order Ginger Ale When They Fly? : We allow some flight attendants to speculate wildly – CHOW – I clicked this just because I am definitely more likely to drink ginger ale on a flight vs real life. I think it has something to do with having something crisp and refreshing whilst being packed in with all those humid humans. 7up doesn’t cut it. Too sweet.
• Before & After magazine e-list – How to find the perfect color for your next design. As seen on Lifehacker. This is a PDF with some basic color theory and a tutorial on using colors in an image to build the perfect palette.

That’s the silver bullet for brands engaged in social influence marketing. Identifying influencers has to be one of the most difficult tasks for SIM marketers these days; right up there with showing ROI.
• Review of new “Beachtek DXA-SLR” XLR adaptor for HD-DSLR cameras | Philip Bloom – A new pro audio hardware de facto standard for a 7D workflow.I was wondering when the breakouts for the DSLRs were going to finally make the pro level. This answered everything I wanted to know. Mostly, I feel like I now know what will be the standard for recording pro audio in a 7D workflow.It’s still going to feel funny piping into that mini-jack, no matter how you slice it, though.Oh, and BeachTek: I have mega lust for the DXA-SLR, but please hire a graphic designer for that packaging. Yikes.
