Happy Wordpress Day! Why we heart WP.
It’s the day we unofficially celebrate the existence of the Wordpress blogging platform. Big thanks to Automattic for forging what has become one of our weapons of choice.
We hearted Wordpress right out of the gate for its easy configuration as a simple content management system. As open and streamlined as many CMSs are aimed at being, many “simple” CMSs with good intentions tend to be too bloated for some of our clients. When we started using WP, it was the perfect minimalist shim to wedge in that static XHTML/CSS to simple custom CMS site gap.
Sure, WP can be bloaty too (anyone else have to constantly fight plugin addiction?), but we’re in control of just where the growth occurs.
Speaking of growth, we can almost count on clients who initially think they’ll never need a blog asking for a blog within weeks of starting a project. Hi-fives all around when we’ve based the project on WP, and blogging just works.
We still use the heck out of CMS Made Simple, even Joomla. We still write a lot of custom functionality. But whenever a new project comes up, you can bet we’ve got the holster unbuttoned, and a jittery finger on the Wordpress trigger.
